Artimere stared at her mother's body, rain sliding off her dark scales. "No." the dragonling whispered, fear etched in every line on her face. "Please! NO! Someone, help!" "Artimere." Her father's voice sounded close to her ear. "it's over. She's dead." Artimere turned to face him, her green eyes burning. "it's your fault!" She spat, her claws reaching for his throat. He pinned her easily, growling slightly. "It's no ones fault." Artimere wriggled beneath his talons. "You didn't care about her; you didn't even love her!" the dragonling hissed at him. Her father got very, very quiet. Artimere shrank back, knowing she'd gone too far. But the huge dragon didn't look angry; he looked sad. "You are wrong, Artimere," he finally said quietly. "I loved your mother very much.. But dragons are not allowed to cry... I am not allowed to cry..." Artimere had never seen her father like this, he looked almost... defeated. She wiggled out from under him and pressed against his side. "I love you, Daddy," she said quietly. She couldn't remember the last time she'd said that- or called him Daddy. "I love you too," he whispered. He nuzzled her head, wiping away raindrops. "Now let's go home," he said gently. "Your siblings will... will need to know what happened..." He cradled his mate's body in his talons. Artimere nodded, too choked up to say anything. She followed him as he slowly headed home, his tail dragging in the mud.
